Repairing Damaged Roofing Felt

Roofing felt was first introduced in the 1930’s its original purpose was to protect the roof while the main roofing was being constructed as well as providing a waterproof protection to the roof against rain and snow. If water is to get under the felt due to the lack of ventilation condensation can then build up causing the roof to leak due to the water under the felt. This is why it is important to get damaged roofing felt repairs or replaced.

Repairing the felt

Roofing felt doesn’t need to be completely replaced if it gets damaged. It is possible just to replace the damaged section which would save you a lot of money and time.

Lift the torn edge of felt and spray roof and gutter sealant underneath, allow it to dry for the stated time.

Next, you need to cut a patch of felt that’s large enough to fit under the torn area and cover the area around it. Place the patch into place underneath the tear and stick it down.

Then you need to spray the torn part of felt and leave to dry before sticking it on top of the new patch of felt.

Lastly, spray the sealant along all the edges of the felt leaving it to dry. This should seal off the torn area of felt.

If you feel that the felt is too damaged to be repaired and think you require the roof to have new felting, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Pascuzzi Roofing for a quote on a new felt roof.
